Newsletter January 9th 2020

Dear Parents/Guardians

Welcome back and a Happy New Year to you all!

Formal Registration of Junior Infants for September 2020 will take place in the school on Monday 27th, Tuesday 28th, and Wednesday 29th January 2020 from 10.00am to 12.o’clock.

A copy of your child’s birth certificates along with the child’s P.P.S. No. and a house utility bill will be required on the day of enrolment. Enrolment to the school is subject to the school’s enrolment policy, which has recently been updated, and is available to read on the school website.

H.S.E. has informed us that the vision testing for Junior Infants will take place on Thursday 16th and Thursday 30th January. Vaccinations (4 in 1 and MMR) for Junior Infants will take place on Monday 3rd & Tuesday 4th February.

Class teachers will send home notification of individual meeting times closer to the actual date.

School Secretary: On Friday10th of January all school secretaries affiliated to Fórsa will hold a one day strike, to highlight their lack of access to a proper public service pay scale with the pension entitlements and conditions that go with it. This will be followed by a work to rule. Our school staff and unions representing both teachers (INTO) and Snas (Fórsa) are fully supportive of this long running campaign and would ask you to bring it to the attention of all your public representatives.

Consequently, the school office will be closed on Friday. Any early collections or communication with the school will be dealt with by the principal and deputy principal on the day.

Ms. Olwill: I wish to inform parents that Ms. Suzanne Olwill will be leaving our school on Friday 17th of January to take up a new position as principal of St. Mary’s NS, Saggart. Ms. Olwill is a native of Dublin (Kilnamanagh) and came to St. Thomas’ school via Sligo in 2008. Over the last twelve years she has contributed to the development of our school across all mainstream classes and as a learning support teacher. Her passion for teaching and learning, and her particular interest in the areas of Music and Special Education will stand her in good stead in her new role. We wish her the very best in this new chapter and thank her sincerely for her contribution to our school over the last twelve years. !

St. Thomas’ Parents’ Association: Thanks to the parents who helped decorate our school so beautifully before Christmas, assisted our special visitor on the day, and had our decorations taken down last week before school re-opened. Next meeting takes place in the staffroom on Wed 15th @ 8pm. All parents welcome.

Parent / Teacher Meetings: This year we will be providing the facility to book your appointment time online. Our meetings will take place after school on Wednesday 5th and Thursday 6th February ( with the exception of Ms. Olwill’s class).

Junior and Senior Infants go home at normal time.

1st & 2nd classes to be collected at 2.20pm on both of those two days.

Yours sincerely

Michael Maher

Principal
