22nd of April 2020

Dear Parents/ Guardians,

I hope you are all keeping well and you are enjoying the nice sunny days we are getting.

Clothing collection

We are organising a clothes collection fundraiser from May 10th to May 14th. We can accept all kinds of clothing (clean and wearable) shoes (in pairs), hats scarves, bags, belts, bed linen, towels and curtains. You can drop bags of clothing at any time during school hours to reception during the week beginning May 10th. You may decide to do a spring clean of your wardrobes and we would be delighted to take any unwanted clothing off your hands. Clothes are be put in black plastic bags. There will also be a skip bag outside reception for bags to be placed in. All money raised will go towards buying resources for the pupils of St. Thomas’ JNS.

As part of our School Self Evaluation process we are looking at improving wellbeing in our school. Your child's teacher has sent you two survey links - one for you to complete and another for your child to complete. These will help us to improve our school environment and make it a more welcoming place for everyone. Many thanks to those of you whom have competed them already. For those who have yet to complete them, please fill them in before Friday April 23rd.

We are still collecting plastic bottle tops/lids/tins so if you have those at home and you have no need for them, your child can continue to bring these in. We would also appreciate your help in collecting some of the following items for some upcoming school projects. Many thanks to those of you who have brought in items already. If you have any of these items and are not using them, please put them aside and send them in to your child’s teacher:

  • plastic bottle tops, milk tops, drink container lids.
  • metal pots and lids (no frying pans)
  • metal colanders
  • metal dish drying racks
  • metal baking tins
  • plant pots
  • paint for wood or metal

Many thanks for your continued support.

Intercultural Week 26th April to 30th April

As part of intercultural week next week, we will hold a Dress up Day on Friday 30th April. All children, parents, and staff are invited to dress up in their national dress/traditional costume of their own country/another country or in their team/county colours.

First Holy Communion

The parish has developed a tentative plan for pupils of the current 3rd class in Scoil Áine to celebrate their First Holy Communion pending lifting of restrictions on May 4th. This is subject to Government Restrictions being eased to facilitate public worship from 4th May. The plan envisions that 25 people will be allowed in the church for a ceremony. Based on these assumptions, it is anticipated that from Monday 17th May there will be 3 ceremonies a day for a week with 6 pupils per ceremony making their communion. The 3 ceremonies are expected to be at 12 noon, 3pm and 6pm. Parents will be asked to book the ceremony of their choice through the parish website. It is hoped that all 3rd classes in the parish will celebrate their First Holy Communion before the end of June, subject to easing of restrictions. Communication is sent to parents of pupils via Scoil Áine. There are no plans as yet for the current 2nd classes and as soon as plans are in place, this will be communicated to parents.

Parish Car Park

Please note that to park in the car park, one needs a cream 2021 parking permit. It is a danger to children for cars to be driving in and out quickly, dropping off and collecting pupils without permits. To park in the disabled parking bays in the car park, vehicles need to display a blue disabled parking badge and a cream 2021 parking permit. The clamping company APOCA which looks after this car park are monitoring the situation. Thank you for your co-operation.
