Newsletter Friday March 20th 2020

Dear Parents/Guardians,

I hope you are all as well as you can be, given all that has happened since we closed last Thursday. I am very conscious of the stress and strain on all families at the moment with health, financial and safety worries. I do not intend to add to that anxiety, and want to let you know the school is here to support you in any way we can over the coming weeks.

We put up some materials and learning activities on our website last week (class news) for parents to access, if they wish, for their children. We will be adding to that next week and also adding other ways we can support distance learning going forward. Additional reading material can also be accessed from our book publishers who have all made it available free to parents.

If you have a particular query for the school or for your child’s teacher you can email the school email and I will forward it to your child’s teacher. If you are short of writing materials/ worksheets/ paper/colouring /reading materials there will be a supply of same available on Fridays between 10 and 12 for collection (once we all keep our social distancing.! ) . The phone will also be manned at this time each week if you have an immediate query that I can help you with .

Our Annual St. Thomas’ J.N.S & Scoil Áine Naofa quiz night has been postponed as has our First Confession on the 25th of March. These will be rescheduled at a later date.

We have reached the end of Week 1 of restrictions and have survived so it keep going and keep following the daily guidelines from the H.S.E. There is plenty of clean fresh air out there so keep active, keep doors closed and windows open! Technology can’t replace human contact but Whatsapp and Face time can help keep us connected with our loved ones. Keep an eye out for the elderly in your community as they rely on your goodwill and assistance, and for those at the coalface in our hospitals , care homes and all those ensuring we have the supplies that we need. We are grateful and will get through this together.

Yours sincerely,

Michael Maher

Principal

P.S. To finish on a positive note we had a detailed site visit from our architects this morning and we will be moving forward with our building project irrespective of school closures.
