12-September-19

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Junior Infants: The full infant day (9am -1.40pm) will commence from next Monday, Sept. 16th. Well done to parents and pupils with the line-up this week and please continue to stand at the back of the line, to allow children walk in/out safely with teacher. Try and have your child standing ‘in the line for five to nine’. At this stage children will be walking in, in two lines, so please refrain from ‘high fiving’ and waiting at the door to see them in! Thank you.

Pupil Insurance Scheme: Application forms for Pupil Insurance Scheme were sent home today. Please return correct amount in the envelope provided by Friday 21st

Aldi tokens: we have begun collecting Aldi rugby stickers/tokens for our school. If you shop in Aldi we would appreciate you sending in the stickers with your children so that we have an opportunity to win some great prizes for St. Thomas’ J.N.S. The children are really enjoying the campaign.

Reminder: St. Thomas’ J.N.S. Parents Association: Our A.G.M. takes place on Wed. 18th September in the senior hall at 8pm. All parents are very welcome. We would encourage as many parents as possible to attend and it is a great opportunity for you to become involved in shaping the fundraising events for the school year along with meeting new parents/friends. A short meeting will be held afterwards, at which we elect our officers for the coming year, and plan an exciting year ahead! Wine and cheese reception will follow.

Child safeguarding/Health and Safety: We ask all parents and guardians to leave the school yard promptly at drop off/collection times (9:05pm and 1:45pm). The gates need to be closed for health and safety reasons so we would ask parents not to congregate and children not to play football on the football pitch.

Carpark Clamping: Please be advised that APCOA will be clamping any cars in the carpark that do not display the Parking permit given by the school. Parents without permits are not permitted to park in the carpark and will be clamped.

If you already have a permit and need an updated one for ‘19/’20 please inform the office.

P.E./Support timetables: please be advised that P.E and support times will be sent out in the coming weeks. As happens every September, a process of testing and timetabling needs to be worked through before timetables are set. For the moment the class teacher may have an interim P:E. time for your child’s class.

Greenschools: In accordance with our Greenschool’s policy, we remind parents that we have a zero waste policy. We recommend the use of kitchen roll instead of tin foil and plastic #nomoreplastic.

Environmentally friendly: please note that our school newsletter goes out every Thursday and can be found on our school website.

First Communion: Our First Holy Communion takes place in St. Patrick’s Church on Saturday 23rd May. There will be 2 sittings - 10am Mass (R.16,17,18) and 12 o’c Mass (R.19 & R.20)

E.A.L. All junior infants where English is an additional language or 2nd language will be withdrawn for quick chat/oral language test. This is to assess all levels of fluency and needs for extra support.

Yours sincerely

Lorraine Murray
