Hallowe’en Midterm Break. The school will close on Friday 22nd October at the regular times for midterm break and will reopen on Monday 1st November.

Spooky Dress up: The pupils are welcome to dress up in spooky costumes on Friday 22nd of October and we ask that each pupil brings in €3 in an envelope to the class teacher to help support the Dyslexia Association of Ireland.

October is Dyslexia Awareness Month.

Dyslexia affects approximately 1 in 10 of the population

Dyslexia is not indicative of intelligence

Dyslexia can affect confidence and competence in reading, writing and spelling and can make school more challenging

Dyslexia is the most common learning disability

Some of the most brilliant people in history had dyslexia- Edison, Einstein, Picasso……..

Children are often diagnosed with dyslexia during their time in St. Thomas’ and we always endeavour to support our families and pupils through this time and into the future

Dyslexia is a ‘super power’ and a different way of thinking. It does not mean that we will be unsuccessful in life

Autumn School Grounds Clean Up: Monday 18th October at 2:45pm (Wednesday 20th as a back -up day in case of wet weather). Please come along if you are available to help and bring your gardening gloves and small tools. Refreshments are provided thanks to SuperValu and the Parents’ Association. Junior Infant Enrolment 2022: Enrolment for junior infants 2022 will commence after the midterm break on Nov. 1st and will remain open as always until the end of January 2022. Please see the school website this Friday for further details and guidance.

School Closure for PLC inservice training:The school will close for a full day to pupils on Friday 5th November for compulsory training in the primary language curriculum. Our SNAs will also receive CPD on this day in areas pertinent to their role supporting the care needs of pupils with additional needs.

During the holidays, please remember as always to be vigilant for Covid 19 symptoms in your children/family and arrange a test as necessary. If there is a Covid case within your household or if a member of your family is a close contact, you and your children should follow isolation and testing guidelines as outlined to you by the HSE and a return to school can only happen if advised safe to do so by the HSE. See COVID-19 (coronavirus) - HSE.ie

There will be no newsletter next week and so I wish all the boys, girls and parents a spooktacular midterm break.
