Newsletter Thursday 27th October

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Blue Star Programme We are very excited to announce that here at St Thomas JNS we are embarking on a new adventure. We are taking on the challenge of obtaining the Blue Star Flag.

The Blue Star Programme teaches primary school pupils about European cultures and the EU through creative activities and projects which complement the national primary curriculum. The idea of the Programme is simple: to foster better understanding and knowledge of the European Union and how it affects the lives of Irish citizens among primary pupils through classroom projects and activities.

Room 16, Ms. Finnegan’s class, are learning all about the Spanish cultures and traditions. We had a Spanish breakfast morning where we tasted some delicious pastries such as churros and Tortilla De Patatas (Spanish Omelette) and much more! We are learning songs through Spanish, we are completing projects on Spain, we are learning basic conversation vocabulary which we are really excited about and finally we are looking at the Spanish Artist Pablo Picasso and creating some cubism art. Please stay tuned as we will upload our work as we go!

If you would like some further information on the programme itself, please check out: · http://www.bluestarprogramme.ie/Some links that may be of interest to the children include: · https://europa.eu/european-union/index_en · http://europa.eu/kids-corner/index_en.htm

County Photos will also take a class photo of all classes too. All children are asked to wear their uniform. Parents will be able to buy the individual and family photos. The Parent’s Association will create a Christmas calendar using the class group photos which will be on sale in the coming weeks. If you do not want your child included in the group photo.
