Newsletter- 9th September 2021

Junior Infants: Well done to all our junior infant pupils who have had another wonderful week in St. Thomas’. They are having great fun with their teachers and friends and are learning so much. Next week the children will start on a full day (9:10am-1:50pm). The drop and go system will continue to apply. Well done also to our parents too who have been so supportive.

Photographs: County Photos will take our Junior infant photographs on 28th September. Children are to wear full school uniform on that day. If you would like a sibling photograph with a brother/sister in St. Thomas’, please let the class teacher know via email. You will receive proofs from the photographer with the option to buy.
Communion photographs for past pupils will take place in St. Thomas’ Junior Hall for current 4th classes (on the 27th) and current 3rd classes (on the 29th September). Children should wear their Communion outfits to school that day and any children who are not making Communion but would still like to have their photo taken are as always, very welcome to do so. The children will be brought to St. Thomas’ by their current Scoil Aine teachers, so parents should not present to either school.

Greenschools: A reminder that St. Thomas’ has a no tinfoil, no tetrapak policy. We ask the children to reduce, reuse and recycle and encourage the use of compostable kitchen paper and re-usable beakers. We also foster a ‘switch it off’ and water saving culture within the school. Reiterating these messages at home really helps our pupils to become environmentally aware young people.

Next week is Bike Week. We have bike racks at the front of the school where bikes/scooters can be left at your own risk. It would be great to see the pupils cycling to school. Bike and scooters should not be brought onto the yard.

School fees: A reminder that school equipment fees are still being collected on easypayments on our website or via instalments with the class teacher if required. The fees are used to cover an extensive array of arts and crafts materials, photocopying, ICT, homework journals, copies, pencils etc.

Car park-the car park is for the use of school staff and permit holders only- within the hours stated on signage. Clamping is in operation with APCOA and an extensive fee is in place for release of clamped vehicles. Please keep our car park safe in order to protect staff and pupils in particular.

Change of contact details: If you have recently changed you email address, home address or phone number, please contact the school office so that we can update all information on our database.

Caution: A number of media outlets including the Irish Mirror have reported local sightings in St. Catherine’s Park and Griffeen Park of an individual who may pose a risk to our pupils and parents. Please be vigilant and safe at all times.

Have a wonderful weekend and we look forward to another great week in St. Thomas’ next week.
