Welcome back to all our parents and pupils. I hope that you all enjoyed the Easter break!

Outdoor upgrades-We have been busy over the Easter holidays upgrading our yard area with markings providing lots of colour, fun and games. The children are really enjoying the interactive trails, hopscotch and hundred squares. We are also working on an outdoor sensory area behind our grey prefabs. It is taking some time, but hopefully it will be worth the wait. We would like to thank especially, Coghlan’s bakery in Newbridge who donated a large quantity of pallets and to local past parent Amit Ahuja from www.JBCdeliveries.com who kindly collected and delivered the pallets to us free of charge. Your support is greatly appreciated for this great cause.

Parents’ Association. Again we would like to sincerely thank the PA who have recently purchased extra boxes of interactive magnet toys for our school. The boys and girls are having great fun with them already.

Change of details: If you have changed address, phone number or email recently, it is essential that you inform the school via the office info@stthomasjns.com or on 01-6282691. Updated details are needed in order to ensure smooth communication.

First Holy Communion 2022

First Holy Communions are fast approaching for many of our second class pupils. The children are continuing to prepare for the Sacrament in school and at home and we encourage all parents/guardians to attend mass as much as possible with their children over the coming weeks especially. If you would like your child to read a prayer during their First Communion Mass, please refer to the letter sent from the Parish Team via the school email this week. As a final reminder, please also ensure that you have registered your child for their Communion on the correct date (see below) via St. Patrick’s parish portal here. There will be a section of the church reserved for Communicants and their families on their special day and the parish have requested that no photos be taken during the service.

Upcoming closures: a reminder that we are closed next Monday 2nd and Tuesday 3rd May for the bank holiday weekend. There is also a half day closure on May 20th for Primary Language curriculum training. Next year’s calendar is available to view on www.stthomasjns.com if you wish to plan ahead.

Incoming Junior Infants 2022 Information night: We will have our welcome information night for parents/guardians of incoming junior infants 2022 on the evening of Wednesday May 18th@ 8pm in the junior hall. Please do not bring your children with you on this date. Although not required, we advise parents to wear a mask if possible as the hall will be quite crowded. The meeting will cover class allocation, general school information, booklists, preparing your child for school, meeting the teacher and Q&As. We are looking forward to meeting you all then.

Griffeen Junior Park Runs: If you and your child/children enjoyed the Fun Run before Easter, you may like to make it a weekly event? The Junior Fun Runs take place every Sunday in Griffeen Park at 9:30am and is a sure way to shake off any cobwebs, improve your fitness and wellbeing while also meeting some new friends. You can register for the Junior Park Runs on www.parkrun.ie/griffeen-juniors. Parking at Lucan shopping centre is advised.

Wellbeing week: runs from Wednesday 4th to 6th May (straight after the bank holiday closures). We are still working towards our Wellbeing Amber Flag with the support of our pupils who are also part of the committee. The children will be engaging in lots of fun wellbeing activities such as yoga, bubble blowing and more outdoor activity time. Have you spotted our new buddy benches where the children can sit if they need to find a friend on a given day? Pupils are invited to cycle, walk or scoot to school on Wednesday the 4th of May. Please note that we cannot hold bikes or scooters securely on the premises so parents should use the limited bike rack space at the front of the school or alternatively bring bikes home with them after dropping the pupils.

Trócaire boxes- if you have any trócaire boxes you wish to send into the school for collection, please do so by next Friday May 6th.

Attendance. You may have received a letter regarding your child's attendance prior to the Easter holidays. By law schools are required to report absences in excess of 20 days to Tusla. This year has been an exceptional year due to Covid 19 absences and there were quite a few cases of days over 20 missed. We do not wish to cause any upset or stress to any parents as we understand that the majority of cases are very genuine. If however you notice any errors on this letter please let the class teacher know so they can update your child's records.

Pre- Easter Fun. Intercultural dress up day and Easter egg raffle winners. Well done to the boys and girls.

Wishing you all a nice long weekend.

Lorraine Murray,

Acting Principal.
