Dear Parents/Guardians,

Admissions 2023/2024 Junior Infant enrolment for 2023/2024 is now open. The Expression of Interest form is available on our website www.stthomasjns.com

Book Week:We had a fabulous week last week with lots of reading, library visits and visits to the book fair. Well done to the 1st/2nd class pupils who put in a great effort dressing up as book characters and to Ms. Sullivan for organising the week so well. We look forward to the postponed puppet show from Moon and Sixpence on 5th December and encourage all parents to keep up daily reading to and with your children. It is a most important part of their homework and bedtime routine. A very special thanks to the Parents Association who helped out each day and ensured the smooth running of the week. Thank you for giving of your time so generously.

Parent Teacher Meetings This year’s parent teacher meetings took place this week, Tuesday 22nd and Wednesday 23rd of November. The meetings were face to face and it was lovely to meet our parents in person again after several remote years. Thank you to all our parents who attended.

Primary Language Curriculum In-Service The school will close early this Friday 25th November to facilitate staff training on the Primary Language Gaeilge Curriculum. Junior Infants and Senior Infants will finish school at 11.50am while 1st and 2nd class will finish school at 12 noon.

Catherine Hayes with Lorna Kehoe from the PA above left and with some pupils from St. Thomas' JNS.

Farewell to Catherine Hayes Congratulations to Catherine Hayes who is retiring tomorrow. Catherine has been the housekeeper in St. Thomas’ for 21 years. She has been the heartbeat of the school ensuring that the kettle is always boiled, that there is milk in the fridge and that everyone who comes to St. Thomas’ is welcomed very warmly. She took such pride in her work during her time here and will leave big boots to fill. Catherine is a very kind and special lady who goes above and beyond for the staff and the pupils. All of the children know her by name and will miss her so much, as will the staff and parents. Yesterday we had a lovely whole school assembly for Catherine. The children, staff and PA presented her with lovely gifts. We wish to thank Catherine sincerely for her long and stellar service and wish her all the best in her future. We hope that you have a long and happy retirement Catherine. You deserve it.

Kind regards,
